CORPORATE STRATEGY

Our goal is to become a fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company and a leader in the discovery, development and commercialization of novel small molecule drugs that modulate ion channel targets and address disease areas with significant unmet medical need and commercial potential. Importantly, an overarching theme, which applies to all components of our strategy, is our commitment to meeting the highest ethical, scientific and professional standards without any sacrifice in all aspects of our work. While we are committed to bringing the company to a stage of true financial success, in meeting this commitment, we will not sacrifice quality and integrity in our quest to develop and commercialize novel pharmaceuticals for unmet needs. Key components of our strategy to achieve our corporate goals are outlined below.

Focus on ion channels as drug targets. From our inception, our exclusive research focus has been on the drugable class of targets known as ion channels. These proteins, which have shown utility as drug targets for over thirty years, provide a sound basis for small molecule drug discovery. Using our core competency in ion channel drug discovery, we at Icagen are broadly exploiting this class of targets to find promising new targets and promising new drugs for a wide variety of diseases for which current therapy is lacking or inadequate to meet the needs of broad patient groups.

Strengthen our core ion channel drug discovery technologies. All of our drug candidates and research programs have resulted from our core ion channel drug discovery technologies. These technologies, which span the key disciplines of biology, chemistry and pharmacology, have been steadily built over a number of years. We intend to continue to invest in these core technologies, including our ion channel focused compound library, as the key to our future research programs and drug candidates.

Build and advance our product candidate pipeline. Through our ion channel drug discovery and development programs, we have created a broad pipeline of drug candidates spanning a range of therapeutic areas. We plan to continue to aggressively pursue the development and commercialization of these drug candidates. In addition, we believe that the breadth of our capabilities in ion channel drug discovery technology will enable us to continue to identify and develop additional drug candidates on an efficient and rapid basis.

Establish strategic alliances with leading pharmaceutical companies. We have established, and expect to continue to build upon, a broad set of strategic alliances with several leading pharmaceutical companies. These collaborations have enabled us to leverage our ion channel expertise into additional therapeutic areas, benefit from the therapeutic area expertise and commercial resources of our partners, and augment our financial resources.

Expand our development expertise. From our origins as a drug discovery organization, we have steadily expanded our capabilities in drug development. As we advance our product candidate pipeline, we plan to further augment our development team by adding additional personnel with experience in drug safety, regulatory affairs, statistical methods, project management and medical affairs.

Establish specialized sales and marketing capabilities.  We plan to retain United States marketing and sales rights or copromotion rights for our product candidates for which we receive marketing approvals in situations in which we believe it is possible to access the market, or a portion of the market, through a focused, specialized sales force.  For situations in which a large sales force is required to access the market and with respect to markets outside the United States, we generally plan to commercialize our drug candidates through a variety of types of collaboration arrangements with leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies
